With more than a century of manufacturing under its belt (the first factory opened in 1893), Flexsteel’s namesake heart of steel is the stuff of industry legend. Though technologies have changed through the decades, the patented blue steel spring remains at the core of the company’s upholstered seating, and the support system is guaranteed for a lifetime of use. Additionally, with roots in the transportation industry, the company’s quality story continues to stand apart, with many of its products tested to commercial standards using ANSI and BIFMA 5.1 guidelines.
Over time, the company has expanded beyond upholstered goods (stationary and motion fabric and leather, zero gravity recliners, swivel chairs and sleeper sofas) to encompass wood furnishings (including bedroom, dining room, occasional and home office). And, at a time when omnichannel prowess is the name of the game, Flexsteel has been carving out a significant brick-and-click business via its flat pack Home Styles division, affording its dealers an easy path to selling home furnishings. Gone is the recreational vehicle seating division. Under the aegis of CEO and President Jerald Dittmer, the company has been transformed in the past two years to focus all of its attention on the home furnishings business and its retail partners, in every aspect from delivery to the salesforce and the back-end portal.
