Key Differentiators

  • Due to its acquisition, Emerald is part of the portfolio of H.T. Hackney Co powerhouse of brands which include Holland House Furnishings, Davis Direct, Step One, Folio 21, and Crush. That combined buying power and the overseas relationships of the sister companies mean that Emerald has been in a better inventory position with warehoused products than many throughout the pandemic.
  • Already strong in quality upholstered goods, with its good/better/best case goods development now led by a former Top 100 buyer, Emerald is bent on becoming a force to be reckoned with in whole home assortments and a one-stop shop.
  • For retailers intent on finding product, the company will show both in-stock goods and new collections at First Tuesday. Already serving top-tier majors, the company is acquiring new accounts with a focus on independent dealers and is a member of FMG, Furniture First and other buying groups.

The Story

Acquired in November of 2019, this 50-year-old company is now owned by H.T. Hackney Co., the second largest furniture shipper out of Vietnam and serves stores throughout the U.S. via both direct shipments and its two domestic warehouses strategically positioned in Tacoma, Washington and Lexington, North Carolina. Thanks to Hackney’s buying power, in addition to its sister companies’ overseas relationships, Emerald is currently able to service independent dealers with warehoused products across its categories with a strong focus on quality furniture at affordable price points. Already strong in upholstery, the company hired Melinda Lehman, former Art Van case goods buyer to lead case goods development and help spearhead its move into coordinated whole home assortments with unified looks designed to make Emerald a one-stop shop for retailers.
