Brazil Furniture Group was created in 1998 by the coming together of two of the most traditional furniture manufacturers in Brazil, Renar Moveis and Rotta Moveis, both located in Santa Catarina, and both originally founded by German and Italian immigrants in the early part of the last century. By the 1980s, both companies were beginning to export, mainly to Europe. Today, the global firm is headquartered in High Point, North Carolina, the heart of the U.S. furniture industry, and the companies remain family run, each by the fourth generation.
Setting BFG apart is 15,000 acres of company-owned and managed Brazilian pine forest, a mixing of Canadian and American pine that results in a harder wood, sans the yellow knots. The company’s completely vertical process results in a broad collection of low-sheen, organic looks of the kind normally found in better U.S. specialty stores, but available here at entry-level prices.
